DONOR STORIES

Three cheers for our donors!  They are amazing.

Our donors all have one thing in common.  They wanted to give back and make Washington County
a better place to live and raise a family.

Their stories are all unique and we are honored to be the stewards of their legacy.  Take some time to peruse our list and read their stories.  More than likely, there is someone on the list that you know!

Chuck and Jackie Demlow

When Chuck and Jackie Demlow moved to Washington County, it was primarily to relocate for a job. Although neither Chuck nor Jackie are originally from Washington County that hasn’t prevented them from calling it home. They both felt that it was important to be a part of the community and contribute. And today, they couldn’t imagine doing anything else in the community they’ve grown to love.

Born on July 10th, 1946 in Tell City, Indiana to Robert and Opal(Stein) Foertsch, Jackie is the oldest child with two siblings. Upon graduation from Tell City High School, she pursued her studies at Indiana State University with a dual degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Subsequently, she began her teaching career in Wayne Township, Indianapolis before continuing her education to earn her Master’s degree in 1972. From there, Jackie worked for East Washington Elementary School for two years before teaching at Bradie Shrum Elementary up until retirement.

Chuck was born on December 22, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Edwin and Nellie (DeLong) Demlow. Next to the youngest, he has four siblings. Following graduation from Shortridge High School, Chuck worked for Indiana State Highway Commission before enrolling at Purdue University-Indianapolis. While spending part-time studying civil engineering which he thoroughly enjoyed, Chuck applied and was accepted into Indiana State Police Academy. Seizing the opportunity, Chuck spent 32 years in law enforcement before spending 11 years working for the Washington County Child Protective Services up to retirement.

Chuck and Jackie married on August 23rd, 1972. They are the parents of four; Kevin, Kenneth, Shay, and Robert. Leading productive lives, their children followed career pathways of various fields of interest.

Outside of work, Chuck and Jackie share hobbies in reading, cooking, and family activities.

Jackie is also a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Driven by the lifelong lessons their parents taught them, Chuck and Jackie hold a strong belief in the importance of honesty. “I would encourage everyone to be responsible and productive individuals with a sense of honesty and integrity,” Chuck stated. Adding on, Jackie shared her message: “Be responsible and strive for high ideals. If people don’t set expectations, then they will do less than expected.”

Reflecting on their passion to help others, Jackie expressed her love for Washington County. “I love the friendliness and low-key atmosphere where people are always ready to help in time of need. The community has given us so much. We want to help the community where it is needed.” Chuck added, “People have been so good to us in this place. If we can help, that’s what we’re gonna do!”.

Because of their generosity, we are able to address the changing needs of Washington County, ensuring its future as a great place to call home. Leading a quiet life with a community heart, their legacy will continue on, for good and forever in Washington County.
