DONOR STORIES

Three cheers for our donors!  They are amazing.

Our donors all have one thing in common.  They wanted to give back and make Washington County
a better place to live and raise a family.

Their stories are all unique and we are honored to be the stewards of their legacy.  Take some time to peruse our list and read their stories.  More than likely, there is someone on the list that you know!

Sarah Jane Colglazier Young

Mary Smith

Sarah was born in Washington County to Dr. Donald Lee Colglazier and Phyllis (Hansen) Colglazier. Sarah Jane lived in Washington County during her early years. She had one brother, David.

Around the age of four, Sarah and her mother moved to Bloomington to live with Sarah’s grandparents, as her father was drafted into the military to serve in WWII. He was eventually discharged due to medical reasons, and the family then moved to Indianapolis.

Sarah’s mother eventually remarried and the family settled in the Washington DC area. Sarah graduated high school and then earned a nursing degree from Duke University. She lived in California for a while. She eventually made her way back to the east coast. She was a resident Gaithersburg, Maryland when she passed in 2020.

Because of her deep roots in Washington County, Sarah left a portion of her estate to the Washington County Community Foundation to help future generations in our community.
